GovMetric Cookie Policy

Introduction

This Cookie Policy explains how GovMetric ("we", "us", or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on GovMetric CX. By using our website, you agree to the use of cookies as described in this policy.

What are Cookies

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, smartphone, tablet) when you visit certain websites. Cookies help us improve the functionality of our site and your experience while using it.

Types of Cookie we use

Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the operation of our website. They enable you to navigate the site and use its features, such as accessing secure areas.Detail: Session cookies (for authentication purposes)

Performance Cookies

These cookies collect information about how visitors use our website, such as which pages are visited most often, and any error messages received.

This information is used to improve the website's functionality.

Detail: Google Analytics (time limited cookie)

Functional Cookies

Functional cookies allow the website to remember choices you make (such as your username, language, or region) and provide enhanced, personalized features.

Detail: Load balancing cookies - Used to balance traffic across servers, these hold an AWS (Amazon Web Services) generated reference for the server that has been assigned. These cannot be used to identify or track a user, this is standard functionality for load balancers (see https://tinyurl.com/y8as9zov).

The cookies are dropped by the Elastic Load Balancers (ELB) which provide us with the ability to scale our services automatically based on demand.

Their purpose is to enable Session Affinity, aka “sticky sessions”, which ensure that a user always uses the same server while leaving feedback via our surveys.  This allows us to provide the user with a faster, more reliable service.

The cookies that are persistent but have a fixed lifespan of 5 mins.

The cookies simply contain a reference to the server to which the user has been assigned.  Each time the user requests a page via the ELB, it will use the content of this cookie to direct them to their assigned server.  This reference provides us with no ability to identify or track the user.

Multiple users will have the same cookie e.g. if there are 1000 users and 2 backend server, 500 users will have a cookie with the reference to ‘Server A’ and 500 with a reference to ‘Server B’.Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, smartphone, tablet) when you visit certain websites.
